Perhaps I'm not remembering correctly, but...

... didn't Sanko do STUDIES to show safety BEFORE the olmesartan medoximil was APPROVED by the FDA as safe?

Ok, I know it looks like I'm shouting, but I'm just trying to highlight something with that sentence. :)

They didn't need to show safety at 160mg/day, because the BP effect top out at ~40mg per day. (There was a very short trial on healthy volunteers at this sort of dose if I remember correctly. Otherwise high doses were only studied in animals - where they did indeed prove to cause very few problems.)

Most drugs have quite narrow therapeutic windows; I think this is why the gut reaction of many docs to problems in people taking MP doses of olmesartan is to blame the olmesartan.

Perhaps the ARF can commission a small study on this particular point, funds etc permitting. I know we have quite a bit of data from the cohort, but's difficult to get docs to accept it. Not least because IP can easily be confused with adverse reactions. A study with healthy volunteers ought to be able to clear this point up, removing an excuse for docs to deny us meds.

Freddie. . . So sorry to hear of your rx problems. Hope things smooth out for you soon. I remember fighting with my insurance company and how stressful it was so you take care of yourself. My best to you,

Scarlett

We have enough stress just dealing with our illness and herxing issues.  Things like this and uncooperative health care professionals just adds gasoline to the fire.

HI

This is Fred in  WV.  I just want to say a great big thanks for all who has posted here in my support.  I am sure I will get it worked out some way.  It is a good thing that my family doctor gave me 56 Benicar on the 31st.  I do have a few coming from Planet Drugs coming and should be here next week.  This is a great group to help eacher.  Again thanks to all.

I do think it is more about the money than my safety because why would they pay at the local drug store for the 3 pills per day.

Remember, we are all in this together and I am pulling for us.

Your friend in Sarcoidosis
Freddie

There is this study on long term safety and higher dose (1,5 - 5 times normal)

Great find! Here's the full text:
http://www.mediafire.com/?yaljcc2vxjibxxa

The study used candesartan for most subjects, but also various other ARBs (including a couple on olmesartan). So I think it's reasonable to generalise to the way we're using olmesartan.

This could be an extremely useful paper for people in Freddie's position; perhaps it should get a mention in the MPKB (if it's not in there already).

Hi Pgeek,

It's already in the MPKB see:

ref.8

Hmm - not sure it's explained clearly enough there. Maybe I'll edit it and spell things out a bit... :)

HI ALL

This is Fred in WV.  When I try to bring up the 2 sites that Dr Marshall ask me to print for my doctor will not come up, only a blank page.  I tried it 2 ways and just got the blank page both ways.  So here I am asking for some help to bring up these sites so I can print them for my doctor.  The sites are the ones in Dr Marshall's post on this site on Feb 3 at 14:41.

Remember, we are all in this together and I am pulling for us.

Do you mean these ones?
http://autoimmunityresearch.org/abstracts/Ljubljana_Blaney_transcript.pdf
http://autoimmunityresearch.org/preprints/Proal2010CellularMolecularImmunologyPreprint.pdf
They're not websites, they're PDF files. To get them I think you can right click on the links and select 'save as' (or maybe 'save link as') Save them to the desktop, or at least remember where you saved them. THen you need a "PDF reader" to open and print them. You probably have 'Acrobat reader' in the programs section of your start menu.

Sorry that's a bit vague - someone using windows may be able to be a bit more specific. Let us know if you need a bit more help :)

There is a free, safe, PDF viewer for Windows which can be downloaded from here, Freddie:

https://kjkpub.s3.amazonaws.com/sumatrapdf/rel/SumatraPDF-1.9-install.exe

This viewer is not susceptible to viruses, etc, although it will not always show complex forms properly. It will work perfectly with our own documents :)

Save the program to your disk, then run it -- it will install itself. You then will be able to view any files you have downloaded in PDF format.

I attempted to re-order generic Benicar yesterday, 3/22/13, from Canadageneric.com with no success. They have changed their name, and wanted $1 a tablet.

I used planetdrugsdirect.com but they would not sell 270 tablets; the maximum they would sell was 180 of Benicar 40mg.

I am not happy.

Sherry

Sherry,
Me not happy too!
I recently bought 180 x 40 mg Olmesartan for $102 from Planetdrugsdirect.com. ($.56 each)

I had to do a lot of back and forth with the nurses at docs office and also with Planet to finally get what I did. Ultimately Planet says they have legal limits to sell more than a six month supply(?) I tried hard to figure out how to get their best quantity and price, but had to settle for half that.

I hope Trevor posts on this page when his generic alternative is available.

Washington Goes for the Messenger: The US tries to cut off a lifeline for low-cost pharmaceuticals.

The issue of parallel trading seems to have reached the United States, where the US Justice Department has begun demanding that the two largest American couriers, FedEx and UPS, open and report on the contents in the sealed packages of their customers or face criminal charges.

At stake is the delivery of prescription medicines from online pharmacies to customers, according to a report last week by the online news portal WND. FedEx and UPS disclosed last November that they are targets of a federal criminal investigation related to their dealings with online pharmacies.

Is it much cheaper? (There's a brand called Olsertain that's about 1/2 the price of Olmecip in India, but otherwise all the Indian generics were similar prices last time I checked.)
