Update:
Jessica: They took the brace off her neck...so I am assume (bad thing to do but) her neck looked good in her MRI yesterday so that they could remove it. She is moving her limbs around more but she is still in a coma.
Jackie: She is walking w/limp but much better and it does not take 3 people to get her to the bathroom. They checked her legs for blood clots and there are none.
Babies: Got checked out again by peditrician and are doing ok. Grandparents are doing good job w/them.
Barney: I am a bit tired so I slept in this morning. It is real tiring to sit around a hospital. I do not feel so many people should be there to see her yet, but everyone who knows Jessica and Jackie love them to pieces and want to support them physically.
I know most of you think I am crazy anyway..........but her nurse the last couple days and today is going on w/studies to be a nurse practicioner and is very interested in the MP so I gave her a Phase 1 document to read and offered to print out anything else she would like. She is a single mom of 4 boys who escaped Vietnam as a 10 yr old w/no family in tow. She has also been hit by lightning, she says that why she is so crazy....but she is a very good nurse...sweet as she can be....puts up w/all of us running in and out and trying to help her and hugs us and loves us like nothing you would believe.
You know me, we are discussing MP w/everyone that comes around as everyone says I look great and they can't believe how great my skin looks. Thanks to Trevor. I love u Trevor.
I love you all and appreciate all the support and prayers.
Still waiting for her to wake up...........
Later.
Luv, Barney

Others have expressed my feelings better than I could and I'm here for you, too, if there's anything I can do for you.
I'm so glad to hear of the improvements. So sorry for this terrible tragedy, but it's so wonderful that you are able to feel well enough to be there to help so much and even to help spread the word of the MP -- you're amazing and an inspiration!
Love,
Joyce

Barney, Have been away from computer for a few days and was shocked and so sorry to read of your family's terrible accident and loss. You have given so much of yourself for others on the MP, which has been so greatly appreciated.
I pray that you and your family will find the support, courage, strength and peace needed to navigate through the times ahead. Please give your great-grandies some big hugs from "Down Under". Take care of yourself. With love, Jan

UPDATE:
I am a little disappointed this am....when we came back to our motel last night she was not responding to any of us........no kicking, flaying, in the afternoon yesterday.
Thank you all for your kind remarks.
Nothing can be done except prayer.
Tabby came home w/me to see her new Grandpa Ben. But she wanted her other grandma (my daughter) to come soon and pick her up. She did good waiting.
I am tired but doing well, Benicar is our friend.
Nothing more to say today. Keep praying please.
Luv, Barney

Thank all things good that you have such a strong and loving family.
You will really need each other to get through this tragedy. Some people have no one.

Dear Barney,
I've been sending prayers to your daughter. I hope you have some encouraging indications today. But if not, don't despair– one lightning victim was in a coma for two weeks but came out of it and recovered.
You've given so much to the MP community, I thought I'd try to find some information for you. I got a lot of hits with various search terms, spent three hours going through them and found that much of what's out there is not very useful.
By the way, I ran across a news report that five other people were struck by lightning, yesterday, July 9th, in North Carolina. Several others in June. Living in Florida I've become blasé about thunderstorms, but now realize, as do the rest of us reading your posts, that they are truly dangerous.
These are the best, most comprehensive sites I've found where you can get information and support:
http://www.lightning-strike.org/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=49
http://tigger.uic.edu/labs/lightninginjury/
I presume you haven't heard about Dannion Brinkley– he was struck by lightning in 1975, through a telephone wire. He recounts his amazing near-death experience in his book, Saved By the Light, as well as his difficult journey back to health. There's a strong spiritual theme throughout the book, since the experience radically changed his life; you might find it helpful in this difficult time. Here's a link to his website, where you can get an overview:
http://www.dannion.com/NDE.htm
I wish you the best and will keep sending prayers...

Hello Katezzz and thank you so much for all the info....it is wonderful and the man who got hit in 1975 sounds like Jessica. I will forward this info to her docs.
Thank you all for your wonderful support and prayers. It is a never ending nightmare.
She is in a coma that we are counting on God to pull her thru.
Luv, Barney

Hello Barney:
I just got back tonight and I decided to check in.
Unbelievable doesn't quite describe such an event.
I hope for you and your family strength as it is the most important thing right now aside from the love you share with each other.
Much luv
Amazing what we can get through when we hold hands and press onward together.

Hi Barney,
I have read all the books, done a lot of research on Danion Brinkley and his wonderful work after his lightning strike. He did have a long and hard road to travel but has come out to help sooooooo many people not only with lightning strikes but in all phases of troubled life situations. He is a very SPECIAL man I think. We never know what our troubled situations might lead us and our families to. Sometimes it is a far greater thing than we could have ever accomplished had we not gone through the experince that was unbelievable at the time and so hard for us and other to believe.
Keep FAITH. We don't know what GOOD can be around the corner in all this tragic situation that you and your family has incountered.
I will keep the faith for you and family that far GREATER things are in your future !!!!
Also that healing for each of you is on it's way...in a greater way than ever expected.
Love and Blessings for only the Good !
Pat

Thank you all for kind words and blessings.
Jessica has cried real tears like she is sad and the look on her face relates the same several times during the last day and half.....when touched by a cool wash cloth she gasped like we would....when Jackie tried to put chap stick on her lips she moved her lips around like she was angry for touching her w/o telling her first and made a look on her face to match that feeling....she is doing several things that the doctor said she would not do...........we are waiting for her to recover and we believe she can.
So our belief remains in God....not man.
They put in a trach yesterday so that the windpipe would not sell shut from them having a tube in there and they put a feeding tube in her nose.
When I went in to tell her bye, I was going back to the motel, that I would see her tomorrow....she opened her eyes to acknowledge me....and kept opening and shutting them like to say....I'll see you tomorrow Gram.
Tabitha is having a hard time with thunder, rain and lightning and of all things....a locked door. Nathan thought the food cart being pushed thru the hall was thunder...screamed thunder and ran for the corner to hide. Definitely we are going to need physcological help.
I can't even begin to tell you all of this bizzare story, it would take up too much space.
I want you all to know.....I am doing unbelieveably well and I attribute all of the getting thru this to MP.....I am calm like I cannot believe. I do not feel numb, I just can't describe what this feel like. I know my mind just keeps running a 'movie' of all the times these babies have spent with me (and its a lot) but the worst part of the movie in my mind is relating the lightning strike, them being hit and coming to and seeing the oldest 2 on the ground....but most of the movie is a good one. Sounds like I need help huh? No....I am really ok....all I need is MP.
Luv to all,
Barney

UPDATE:
We are back at our house in Deming....taking care of some business here including possibly putting Amanda (my dog/companion) down. She is 14 yrs old and her bun and creatine are real bad after being on Rimidyl for 3 months. I just don't know yet. Taking in a urine sample tomorrow and then I will know what to do. Don't want her to suffer.
I called Jackie and she said that they had set Jessica up on the side of the bed with her arms on the lunch table and she kept her eyes open the whole time.
It drives me nuts being home and not seeing her daily but yet I need to take care of some things here. I don't know if I am coming or going anymore.
Everything is going crazy in my world and I don't know how to get out of this nightmare and fear what comes next.
I continue to take my Benicar and have energy altho very tired. Life does not make sense right now. I keep meaning to get back on MP posting but cannot get myself started as much as I love you all. Please bear w/me until I can pull it together.
Luv, Barney

Barney,
There are times in our life that we just have to rest, knowing everyone understands and are sending you supporting love and positive thoughts along with their many prayers for you and your family. When things happen to our loved ones it takes a lot of strength,
energy, and guts to just keep on keeping on.
Rest and don't worry about us now....heal yourself so you have the love and understanding to help your family heal.
We all love and understand. Our families requires our help , we want to be there for them to give.....so there comes a time when we have to draw back a bit, rebuild mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Do that now for them and all of us.
We love you,
Pat
