Do the D tests rule out co-infections such as Babesiosis?

The results of the D tests will tell you whether your immune system response is predominantly Th1 (mostly bacterial) or Th2 (mostly viral). Abnormal D tests will not rule out a co-infection of Babesia, but it will tell you if it is not the predominant source of your symptoms.

Dr. Marshall believes that it is not the bacteria detectable in your serum that causes chronic inflammatory symptoms. It is the intracellular bacteria that are not detectable because the immune system has been unable to fight them. He states that when the Marshall Protocol allows your immune system to function normally, it will likely take care of the Babesia and other co-infections.

Some people have chosen to finish up Babesia treatment prior to starting the MP. This is a decision which you should make with your LLMD. Please see:

Important warning... Do NOT take Benicar with other non-MP antibiotics..

The phase one guideline states:

5. ATTENTION: If you are taking ANY OTHER ANTIBACTERIALS (Sulfusalazene, Plaquenil and Methotrexate are antibacterials) you MUST discontinue all antibiotics and antibacterials BEFORE you start Benicar. This is because Benicar greatly potentiates the action of many antibiotics, and consequently a severe or life-threatening Herxheimer reaction may result.

Babesia is often treated with 2 of the antibiotics used in Phases Two and Three of the MP.

IF you decide to proceed with Babesia Treatment or antibiotic treatment for other co-infections, please see this FAQ I need to take a different antibiotic for awhile. What should I do?
