Since the content of food in the UK is quite different to that in the US I thought it was worth having a place to post those foods which those of us doing the MP in the UK have found to be 'MP Friendly'! I will kick us off with :
BREAD
Organic White Bloomer
Organic wheat flour; water; yeast; sea salt; ascorbic acid.
Available from: Sainsburys
Comments: Sainsburys have said that the Organic Wheat Flour is 'not enriched at all' and that 'If we do enrich it at all - it goes on the label'. I cannot say if this is the case for all supermarkets in the UK. But GOOD NEWS for those in the UK being able to eat bread. In moderation of course!
Taste the Difference - Heat and Serve Ciabatta (inc Half Ciabattas and Rolls)
Wheat Flour; Water; Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Salt, Malt Flour; Yeast.
Available from: Sainsburys
Comments: Sainsburys have said that the Wheat and Malt Flour is 'not enriched at all' for this product.
Additional Info: Sainsburys careline can be reached on 0800 636232 to confirm these details or to check another product.
Reenie explains below what to look for when trying to work out if bread is ok:
Since you live in the UK, I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you, but I can help you be a good detective and figure this one out for yourself... If those ingredients were listed on a bread label in the US, I'd say it's NOT OK, because unless the "wheat flour" would say, WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR, it would not be whole wheat, and any wheat flour which is NOT whole in the US is typically enriched. Usually our food labels will specify the "enrichment" ingredients or use the word, enriched on the label. I don't know if those guidelines are the same in the UK as they are here.
Please try and post the following information:
Name of Product; Name of Shop; Ingredients; Any comments from maker; A customer service number where available.
Look forward to seeing other peoples suggestions!
Dan

Flour here doesn't have added vit D, only calcium (in white flour). So all bread should be ok.

Hi Julia
Many thanks for the web link. What a great site and very useful for all us MP'ers! So far I have not found any bread in the UK which is enriched with Vitamin D. Some supermarkets are still enriching bread with varying degrees of folic acid or folates and not declaring it on the ingredients list so it may still be worth ringing the supermarket to check.
I see you are in Phase 3 and have probably got far more experience than most of us in the UK about what you can and can't eat. It would be great for those of us who are relatively new to all this if you could let us know what you found to be OK. I'm already getting board of what I can eat!

MILK
Dairy Crest (formerly Unigate) are the largest milk supplier in the UK. They confirmed that they DO NOT enrich their milk at all with Vitamin D. This is true of all the main dairies. The only people who have enriched milk in the UK are those who serve on US Army bases.
