My response to the BioEssays letters by Grant, Garland and Boucher has just been published. You can  find it at
http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/bies.20750
http://AutoimmunityResearch.org/Bioessays_reply_may08_preprint.pdf

FYI, the text of the letters can be found at http://AutoimmunityResearch.org/BioEssays_May08_letters.pdf

I think that these letters illustrate perfectly the points I was trying to make in my paper. It is beyond my comprehension that one could argue, as Dr Boucher has done, based solely on an evidence base which science has now shown to be flawed. That is clearly going to be the challenge which Medicine faces as it tries to address the growing epidemic of chronic disease..

Mr Grant and Mr Garland should talk firsthand with people from this site.My family has been off of all D for over 2 years now,and the incidence of colds and flu has been virtually nonexistant this winter,as I've stated elsewhere on this site. The couple of times they did catch the sniffles this year it was over within 1-2 days. Our pediatrician has commented that our children(4 of them) have become "lean and mean". This despite the fact that we have not limited their carbohydrate intake whatsoever.

Same at our household - hardly any colds - any sniffles/colds have lasted about a day or so and have been very light - very different compared to the past. No flus.

Usually the winter is a challenge for me. in 2005, I developed a cough that continued for several months and had to keep inhaler with me all the time to relieve the sudden attack of cough. in 2006, 2 doctors diagnosed me with "mild azmah". In March 2007, I started avoiding V D sources. I no more complain of the cough since then.
