| The obvious problems with their new drug idea to interfere with quorum sensing is that one would have to take it for the rest of their lives, and it doesn't stop the bacterial colonies from expanding further. I could immaging that, in the normal course of life, that sooner or later you forget to take the pill, and that eventually the bacterial colonies would be so large, that a single dose skippped might kill you. An important thing to note is the singular focus on bacteria alone, outside of their natural environment, along with fairly linear problem-solving processes that lead to suggesting an inadequate expectation for a best-case application of the initial discovery.
Sad, especially given the value of the initial discovery.
Nice reminder, though, that in many ways bacteria have reduced essential life dialogs and actions down to a pattern of what really matters and that pattern seems to repeat fairly consistently througout the rest of the life forms on the planet.
