'Tis the week before Easter and This Flower Lady is up to her Eyeballs in Easter Lillies....My sleep schedule is all wonky. I am wonky
As soon as I have a few extra minutes , I need to check out air fare to LAX. I spoke with my husband about attending, and he also believes it is important. Cost very well might be an obstacle.
I'm a definite Maybe
A Zillion Dollars!! How many Easter Lillies can one woman sell!!??

Dr Marshall
I'm going to the next conference no matter when it is. I need something to keep me busy on father's day anyway so that's fine with me. I've got three coming with me right now. My goal is ten which probably will not happen. That just means I'm gonna have a lot of friends avoiding me for a while. So now the cost is only a zillion dollars apiece. I know my MasterCard will not handle it so I'll check my discover. LOL

I'd really like to be there and if there is anyway I can swing it I will (that's a maybe....60% probability). It'd be great to meet Dr. Marshall, some of the moderators and others of my MP family.

CJ,
Southwest flies from Detroit to LAX, and there are still a few $180 each-way discount seats selling, and one flight with a $150 discount. Detroit is not as cheap as some hubs, but that will serve as a guide for your budget.

dr marshall,
i would give anything to attend the conference this summer, but financially it's probably not possible for me right now. my husband has been out of work for about 3 months and we are going to be playing catch-up for awhile after he starts to work again. probably a winter one would be more feasible for me. would a later one be in L.A. also? sorry....sun

Sun,
It really only makes sense to hold conferences when there is something to discuss. At this point it is important for Dr Alan Cantwell to meet with us, and vice-versa (his colleagues, too).
There is no guarantee we will ever have another conference, especially as I get busier and busier. But then, maybe a commercial organization will take over the hard work at some point in the future.
Maybe you can car-pool with somebody from Northern CA. I am sure that there must be a way to get to LAX...

If there's a conference, I'm sure I'm attending and I'll be driving in the evening.
If there's anyone wanting to attend from Phoenix, AZ or wanting to drive to/from AZ that would like to carpool, pm me. I'll most likely be leaving for LA a day earlier though, so that would mean one extra night's hotel stay.
I'm planning to split a room with someone, (don't know whom yet) so the extra night's not all that big of an expense.

I've been checking on airline tickets and the average cost for me has been around $500.00 round trip. I am going to check another website for rates. (Kayak.com) Someone told me they fly to LA. from Atlanta all the time, and they get a pretty decent rate from them.

The registration will be under $100, including coffee breaks, probably well under, but I need to haggle with the Hotels tomorrow. Haggling is a US tradition, unfortunately Maybe we will hold the next conference in Japan The sit-down dinner will be additional, I think. I will have to warm up the computer which does my number crunching, I guess

To all,
Thanks to those who are making the effort to find a way to LA. It is heartwarming to see your responses. I'm saddened that some of you will have to miss this very special event. Dr. Cantwell is a medical pioneer and he can no longer travel far. Those of you who saw Lida Mattman in Chicago were lucky as she is now in an assisted-living home.
I am looking forward to meeting many of our MP family for the first time and renewing friendships with others. Jane, I can't believe you are coming from Tokyo. It will be great to see you again. Ival, I enjoyed getting to know you in Bethesda and look forward to hearing your Florida drawl again. Sherry, I remember our quiet, heartfelt conversations at the Chicago conference and I'm happy to know you'll be there.
We will make sure there is lots of time for meeting and greeting. Many of you have supported each other via the website and it will be great to see everyone getting together. The Hilton should provide ample communal space for relaxed conversations.
Some of you may want to network to travel or room together as Reenie suggested.
The physicians sessions will be a chance to see firsthand the development of cutting edge science. We will also have panels designed for members needs.
Meeting people in person who share a special bond is an amazing experience. I hope all of you will look hard for the resources to attend this conference because it may be a very long time before we have another one.
Best,
Meg

| One delegate from Tokyo and the price goes from a zillion to less than $100. I think I am on to something here.

Attention all US travelers:
Southwest Airlines (online) is running a sale on air fares from various US cities that must be purchased by midnight tomorrow, April 13th for travel through the summer. The rates are as little as $39.00 from Phoenix and $59.00 from Dallas one way.
If husband can take a few days off, then that will be at least two, possibly four to LAX. Due to brain fog, I can not travel by myself, yet.

Meg,
Maybe it would be a good idea to broadcast an email to all that have registered on MP.com announcing the conference. I'm sure there are many who don't check the website very often (especially medical professionals) but would be interested in the conference. Just an idea...
