On 29th September, Dr Michael Holick appeared on the "Coast to Coast" radio show, hosted by George Noory:
http://www.coasttocoastam.com/guest/holick-dr-michael/41323
As many of you can't afford a subscription to listen to the whole show, I have edited the broadcast into an MP3 file of short snippets, so that we can (intelligently) discuss what was said. There is a "beep tone" to separate each snippet of info.
You can download it from:
http://MarshallProtocol.com/video/Holick.mp3
First is the introduction, setting out Dr Holick's overview of Vit D.
The second segment explains how Vit D affords reduced risk of many chronic diseases. In particular, it explains how "one sixth of the human genome, almost two thousand genes", are directly or indirectly controlled by Vitamin D.
Hmmm.. Wikipedia says that there are 20-25,000 human genes. Let's see, 6x2000 = 12,000. Hmmm, maybe Wikipedia (and I) am wrong about that
(The estimate I usually give is 3%. One doesn't want to exaggerate, you know...)
Segment 3: "Mother nature has been very clever" but apparently not clever enough, as "if we live above Atalanta, Georgia, we cannot make any Vitamin D in the winter" (ROFLMAO)...
What's more, if you are obese then you need 2-3 times as much Vitamin D as a healthy person... (again ROFL)
Segment 4: Holick suggests that the demise of the dinosaurs was due to a lack of Vitamin D (still ROFL)
Segment 5: Sunshine must be good because it cured Tuberculosis (Pity it didn't also cure latent TB, as that is becoming a scourge right now, worldwide...)
Segment 6: A caller asks why her cancer pain was increased when she took Calcium and Vitamin D and Holick seems to honestly not have any idea that such a thing could possibly exist. It must be a coincidence, he reasons...
------------------
Sigh. Everything is anecdotal or based on what "makes sense" - even the demise of the Dinosaurs must be possible, because it sounds reasonable.
And yet these same people criticize my "in-silico" research as crazy mathematical computer stuff. Sigh... it will take a long time to get the message through, I am afraid...
..Trevor...
(ps: thanks to Furch for alerting us to this little gem...)

Segment 4: Holick suggests that the demise of the dinosaurs was due to a lack of Vitamin D (still ROFL)
Interesting theory. I like mine better though. The demise of the dinosaurs was due to Pathogenic Bacteria.
I even have evidence. You can't sell any vitamin supplements with this though.
And there are no evil "in-silico" computers involved so it's not "all crazy" like your theorys Dr. Marshall.
How a tiny bug slew T. rexhttp://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17876-how-a-tiny-bug-slew-t-rex.html
I added some comments in brackets
"Holes found in the jawbones of 10 T. Rex – including "Sue" at the Field Museum in Chicago – may not be battle scars from fighting with rivals (oooh that's sexy and kinda violent isn't it) as previously thought. The holes are more consistent with parasitic infections that gouged holes up to 5 centimetres wide in the bone, (not nearly as fun and marketable as "battle scars") says Ewan Wolff at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
His team examined 61 T. Rex jawbones and observed the holes in 1 in 6 (16.666....%)of them. They say the lesions do not resemble bites, but instead are akin to the lesions that protozoan parasite Trichomonas gallinae causes in birds – especially birds of prey such as hawks and ospreys..."
"...He concludes that the infected animals probably starved to death as a result...'"
So perhape the dinos would still be here if they had only taken their D drops.
I think Holick should put his money where his mouth is and find some of those hawks
and ospreys and "give em the D". Now there is a project that could get some funding.

I guess if one lives in the southern suburbs of Atlanta one is OK, and in the Northern suburbs, one is in trouble. But what he didn't explain was what I should do if I live in the city center. Or if I have a slightly sun-tanned skin. Or if I live in the southern suburbs but am a little overweight...
Maybe the fatties need to move to Florida? Would that be far enough south? Mexico City? It's all so complicated...

It's a miracle...I am cured! After all I live in Atlanta, I am obese and a few years ago I had a lot of 25D in my system.
Silly me, I didn't need to do the MP, I was already well and didn't know it. My daughter will be relieved to know that she will never get sick now that she lives in Florida.
chuckle, chuckle...Donna

Harry T. Marshall, a pathologist at the University of Virginia, speculated that the dinosaurs died of rickets after clouds of dust obscured the sun and cutoff their supply of ultraviolet (UV) light...1928
but we have "speculation" from Harry T. Marshall. Isn't that proof enough?
Never mind all that molecular genomics mumbo jumbo. I am moving to Florida.
South Florida.

Hopefully in the future there won't be some new intelligent species hypothesizing that humans went extinct due to a lack of Vitamin D. Maybe we ought to put some of Dr. Marshall's work in a time capsule so that they'll know it was due to too much.

Pretty funny!
Dr. M, maybe you could appear on that show in the interest of "equal time"?
Not that you are trying to come up with things to do in your spare time or anything....

Actually, it appears to me that Hollick's "dinosaur hypothesis" supports the Marshall Pathogenesis, although Hollick seems unable to follow the logical implications of his own theory.
In his paper entitled Sunlight, vitamin D and health: A D-lightful story http://www.dnva.no/geomed/solarpdf/Nr_12_Holick.pdf
Holick states: Sixty-five million years ago, the Chicxulub astroid hit the earth and was responsible for the demise of the dinosaurs and the rise of mammals. Although the cataclysmic fires and sunamis played a major role in the extinction process, it is also likely that the large amount of debris deposited into the atmosphere would have resulted in a marked reduction in the penetration of UVB radiation to the point of it being nonexistent. Thus, if dinosaurs depended on sunlight for their vitamin D requirement, this would have been a major catastrophe and could have also been another cause for the extinction. It was the nocturnal mammal that did not require vitamin D to maintain its calcium metabolism that evolved from this catastrophic event (5,6,9).
Since Homo Sapiens eventually evolved from these same mammals, Holick completely ignores the possibility that man himself also might "not require vitamin D to maintain [his] calcium metabolism."
Or that man, like his mammallian ancestors, may have a biological mechanism which functions even in the absence of UVB radiation to manufacture all the D he requires.

Fish don't need any exogenous Vit D (or light) either - they make it all themselves:

I like you Dr Marshall ... ROFLMAO!!
I actually believed these guys for years.. and was taking ALL the right supplements... including 6,000 IU's of Vitamin D3! I even spent extra money making sure I got the BEST vitamin D supplement available. I took tons of omega 3 fish oil too..
I did all this for 10 years.. and SURPRISE.. I was diagnosed this year with ALS! I guess that dinosaur idiot would say it was just a COINCIDENCE that I could get ALS with such high levels of vitamin D "protecting" me ... ROFLMAO yet again!
I get a promotional message EVERYDAY from the supplement sellers that still have my email address.. telling me how another study has found that vitamin D deficiency is killing us all ... and how THEIR vitamin D supplement is the BEST!
Sigh.. I am afraid you are right Dr Marshall... it is going to take a LONG time to get the truth accepted! But, I imagine Galileo felt the same way 400 years ago! There is nothing harder to change than scientific minds that have been taught an incorrect dogma for their entire lives.
Thank you, Dr Marshall, for making your science about the REAL role of Vitamin D available to all of us on the Internet! Otherwise, I would still be taking my vitamin D and wondering why I am still dying of ALS! Thanks to you and your science I am going to BEAT this terrible disease and become the most vociferous advocate of the MP!

In the context of your recent presentation "The VDR and Metastasizing Cancers", would you be willing to you expand on your thoughts regarding latent TB infections and Dr Alan Cantwell's theory of the cancer microbe?

Lawrence Broxmeyer, MD, published a paper in the journal Medical Hypotheses in 2004, cited on the MP study site and Knowledge Base, entitled "Is cancer just an incurable infectious disease?" which gives a nicely detailed overview of Virginia Livingston's work as well as the repeated suppression of it by the medical establishment.
Full text here: http://drbroxmeyer.netfirms.com/Cancer.pdf
Excerpt: The striking analogy between cancer and tuberculosis was noticed long before the tubercle bacillus was discovered. In 1877, Sir John Simon clearly pointed out this analogy and in fact argued very strongly in favor of a microbial origin of cancer. But by 1910, certain American medical powers did an 180 degree rotation, deciding that cancer was not caused by a microbe and that anyone who thought otherwise was a heretic, a charlatan or a quack.
But Virginia Livingston was none of these. Rather she was a symbol of painstaking research and dedication at the height of post World War II American medical technology. Opponents of Livingston said that she saw "contaminants" of a group of commonly encountered germs. But Florence Siebert, an expert on contaminants who standardized the present day tuberculin skin test for the US government, saw no contaminants present and Dean Burk, then Head of Cell Chemistry at the NCI went so far to say that Livingston's cancer germ was as real and certain as anything known about cancer [29]. Yet in the subsequent suppression of Livingston and her many colleagues by the medical establishment a picture emerges, and it is
not a very pleasant one.
Virginia Livingston gained international status when she discovered that her cancer germ produced human growth hormone, long associated with malignancy. However, at first even this was not believed. Had she gained the same stature regarding identifying the cancer germ itself, by today there probably would be no cancer. At this time there is admittedly no cure for Livingston's cancer germ. Suppression led to its own disinterest in cure and each year a multitude must suffer and die as a result.

Larry, Virginia and Alan never were exposed to the existence of a metagenomic microbiota, and were thus guided by the postulates of Koch towards a single pathogenic species as being causal for disease. This is not the case, or at least to theis date there has been no evidence that any one species is solely causal for any of the chronic diseases.
In India, 60% of the population test positive for Tuberculosis, even though they have no signs or symptoms of the disease. This is "latent tuberculosis." Some US states have latent TB rates above 10%. It is a real public-health problem, and the incidence is rising rapidly as the population's innate immune response become more and more compromised by lack of understanding of our work
