Damn, I wish I could make it back to my favorite city/country.
I remember fishing for fashion bargains at the Salvation Army store at New West and having a drink after work in the bar under the New West station.
Anybody want to adopt a new Canadian? I'm pretty low-maintenance.. oh, but I come with a wife ;)

I wish I wasn't so far away! Then again, I think if I went I'd never want to leave.

FYI: The GVMP support group meets every month and tourists are welcome (with or without wives/spouses ;))!

Ken L, whose interview by Amy Proal is published in Bacteriality.com, is the driving force behind this group, so huge thanks to him for facilitating it! :D :D :D

This month's meeting might consist of only a small group since it's Mother's Day as well.

GVMP support meetings are on the second Sunday of every month:

August's meeting is on August 12th.

September's meeting is on September 9th.

Hopefully this gives some of you who might be travelling a chance to plan in advance!  :)

I'm not sure about the current rules for Americans regarding passports. Sorry! :?

(As a Canadian I now use mine every time I go to the U.S, though.)

As always, RSVP to GVMPsupport@gmail.com

Anyone with info on whether I can get there without a passport would be valuable.  I'd like to bring someone who is not on the MP, and his wife.  They need this.  :dude:

I believe some states have a type of driver's license that you pay extra for that don't require a passport, but all others do.  If you don't have this type of driver's license you will definitely need a passport.

Bummer, flying to WA on the 26th of this month.  Not enough time to get a passport before I leave.  I've heard about the DL, but don't know how to get one.  They plan to require them for flights within US.

I hope this helps. You might want to call customs to find out for sure.

http://canada.usembassy.gov/traveling_to_canada/passport-requirements.html

Beginning June 1, 2009, it was established that travelers entering the U.S. through a land or sea border must present a passport or WHTI-compliant document.

==================================================
Starting June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens returning home from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean or Bermuda, by land or sea, are required to present one of the travel documents listed below.
U.S. PassportThis is an internationally recognized travel document that verifies a person’s identity and nationality. It is accepted for travel by air, land and sea.
U.S. Passport CardThis is a new, limited-use travel document that fits in your wallet and costs less than a
U.S. Passport. It is only valid for travel by land and sea.
Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL)Several states
and Canadian provinces are issuing this driver’s license
or identification document that denotes identity and citizenship. It is specifically designed for cross-border travel into the U.S. by land or sea.
Trusted Traveler Program CardsGlobal Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST enrollment cards can speed your entry into the U.S. and are issued only to pre-approved, low-risk travelers. The cards are valid for use at land or sea; the NEXUS card can be used in airports with a NEXUS kiosk.
Special GroupsInformation for Children, Groups of Children, Native Americans, "Closed Loop" Cruises, U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents, U.S. Military, Merchant Mariners, Ferries and Small Boats, and Boaters.
Knowing what documents are required and having them ready when you return home will help streamline the entry process and ensure your return to the U.S. is as smooth as possible.

THANK YOU to Ken for hosting such a positive gathering and for providing a safe, comfortable environment for everyone to talk, listen, and learn!

-Looking forward to more MP 'summer institutes' chez vous! :D  :D

Dang!  Thanks Deb, for the border info.  I checked out the links and I can't go.  Perhaps I will next time I'm up.  It gives me incentive to get the passport soon though.
